Get to Know Us

The roots of our family and their entrepreneurship was the retail food store business. Our grandfather, F.E. Wade, started with one store in Kentville, in 1918. As a young boy, our dad, George, delivered the groceries by horse and wagon throughout the community. At one time, all family members were represented in the food business: George Wade at the helm, two sons, two son in-laws, and daughters all deeply involved in operations. In 1996, given the competitive pressures with the arrival of the big box stores in New Minas, we sold the food stores to Sobeys and Loblaws. This division of the company consisted of 10 retail operations from Wolfville to Annapolis, and approximately 350 employees, so many of whom had dedicated 10-40 years of employment with our family. This was a very heart wrenching chapter in the history of our family and business.

After the sale of the retail food division, the company consisted primarily of the real estate division with holdings in the Wolfville to Greenwood markets. We currently own and operate approximately 300,000+ sq/ft of commercial space and multi-family rentals. In addition, we also operate a variety of retail and side businesses, such as:

  • The Country Store

  • Roo’s Playhouse

  • Hobby Horse Farm (horse boarding & Airbnb)
